Discover how our recent renovation project was able to turn this humble Highvale home into a luxurious haven.
How A House Extension Rejuvenated this Queensland Family Home
The Brief
Jen and Greg had the perfect location for their home, nestled in the mountains in Highvale, Queensland. But, their home was outdated and becoming too small for their family to comfortably live in. After working with Owen of East Coast Building Design, they approached us at JM Homes to see how we could help. We recommended building an extension for that extra space, and doing a major renovation to breathe new life into their rural home.
Project Timeline
Before the build began, we worked with the clients to narrow down what fixtures, fittings, and finishes they were after. Having these items narrowed down and signed off before the build ensured items were ordered and delivered ahead of time and we were able to complete and hand back the project within the contracted timeframe.
Because of the rural location of this project we had to ensure that all works complied with current BAL (Bushfire Attack Level) rating requirements. We had an incident or two where appliances were damaged upon arrival, but the suppliers were fantastic in arranging replacements. Otherwise we didn’t have too many challenges and things ran to schedule.
This project took 1 year 2 months from first contact to completion and cost between $400,000 – $500,000.
Project Outcomes
Through building an extension and renovating, we were able to give this family more space within their home, as well as externally with additional entertaining space with dedicated outdoor kitchen and dining.
Internally we have renovated and reconfigured the floor layout, bringing the lounge/family room in line with the new kitchen, large butler’s pantry, and dining space, providing that open plan feel. The master suite now features spacious walk-in robe and bathroom and private access to the homes newly appointed gym space overlooking the pool and the stunning views.
The home has new tiles, carpet, and paint throughout. In the rumpus and living spaces we have installed Illume skylights (a product seen on The Block 2023), simulating bright daylight into spaces. A fireplace has been installed providing warmth directly to the main living spaces as well as ambient warmth throughout the home.
We were able to complete the project on time and hand the home back to Jen and Greg in June 2023. They can now enjoy the spring holidays in their newly renovated home overlooking the views and planning their sustainable gardens and planting!

Client Testimonial
Here’s what the homeowners, Jen and Greg, have to say about the project:
“From our initial meeting with Josh, through to the end of the project JM Homes was easy to work with. They communicated clearly, had attention to detail, and talked us through any decision points and were very considerate of the fact we were living onsite.
Kevin’s attention to detail was impressive – he often noticed small things before we had and got them fixed immediately.
The renovation was delivered on time and on budget – doesn’t often happen and we were very impressed (and happy!) that it did. It’s a credit to Kev for managing the schedule to keep it on track throughout regardless of the hurdles that were encountered.”
